Online Cross-Cultural Consulting Services

Online Consulting for Adults Living Internationally or Returned to Their Home Country – In-Person or Online Sessions for Minnesota

Cross-cultural consulting with Tarriance is a specialized form of coaching specifically for people who are preparing for, living in, or returning from a cross-cultural experience.  When moving to a new culture, typical ways of coping with life’s challenges may prove less effective than they were in the home culture. What starts out as an exciting adventure may begin to feel uncertain and lonely. Regardless of their level of preparedness, some people find challenges outnumbering their resources, and in many cross-cultural settings finding access to supportive resources for processing these challenges is limited. Some people find it difficult to return to their home country after a cross-cultural experience and experience reverse culture shock. If you lived internationally as a child, you may find yourself still having difficulties as ad adult. You don’t feel at home in your current culture that conflicts with the cultures of your upbringing, but you don’t feel the same sense of welcome in the cultures where you lived internationally either.

If any of this sounds familiar, you may benefit from consulting with someone who has years of professional experience helping others work through cross-cultural issues. I’m Kathy Johnson, a therapist, coach, and consultant who welcomes people who are working through cross-culture struggles abroad. I understand the many ways cross-cultural experiences can enhance your life as well as the ways it can create ripples in your usual sources of strength and resilience. If you’re living abroad currently, I offer support via cross-cultural consulting sessions online, so you can talk to someone who understands where you’re coming from and can offer guidance.

Is Cross-Cultural Consulting Right For Me?

Some guiding questions to help you discern if cross-cultural consulting is right for you:

  • Are you serving overseas in a ministry capacity, school setting, or NGO?

  • Do you feel at all alone as you face the normal (but difficult!) challenges that come up as you navigate a new culture, a language barrier, or great distance from your support network?

  • Have you recently returned from the mission field and feel you would benefit from  debriefing your last term or working through reverse culture shock issues as you adjust back to your native culture?

  • Have you faced a recent crisis due to dangerous circumstances be it safety related, health related, or the sudden need to respond to a threatening situation?

  • Are you a trailing spouse who feels frustrated, depressed, or out of place following your spouse’s dream to live and work in another country? Do you have a sense of anxiety, lack of confidence, or general feeling of loneliness? Do you feel guilty about these emotions because you know your partner is happy and you want to support them?

  • Are  you a third culture kid who lived in one or more countries during your development? As an adult, do you still have a difficult time finding a culture where you seem to belong? Do you find yourself idealizing other cultures or traveling continuously in your search for a place to belong?
